Welcome from David Middleton, Chair of Trustees

Welcome to the governance section of the website. I hope you find it useful and informative.

Acorn exists for one purpose: To serve the children of our community with absolute integrity.
Our mission is equally simple: To prepare every child for their world, in their time.

The role of governance in Acorn is to ensure this purpose and mission are understood and achieved, and that the children in our care are safe and well provided for. The 3 layers of governance facilitate this. Members provide the continuum, ensuring that the trust's purpose endures. The trustee board translates the simple mission into a strategic oversight of the trust's operations and holds the trust's professional leaders to account. The sub committees of the trustee board, which include the academy councils, act as the eyes and ears of governance, closely observing and supporting the detail of teaching, learning, safeguarding, people, finance and estate management.

All of our governance is provided by volunteers who give freely of their time and agree to abide by the highest standards of public service. Governance is an act of civic duty, something that Acorn takes extremely seriously. This relates right back to our purpose - the benefit of the trust is for the children of our community. To ensure that governance is fully compliant and co-ordinated, the trust employs a Governance Advisor, Zoe Stockley.

As governors we are hugely proud of what Acorn has achieved and we are restless to see continuing improvements in the trust's work. We are always looking for volunteers who can strengthen our governance structures. If you are interested in this or have any questions we would be very happy to hear from you. In the first instance, please get in touch with Zoe.

Thank you for visiting the Acorn website.
