Last week, Heytesbury Church of England Primary School’s Badgers Class travelled to the O2 Arena to be part of the largest Children’s choir in the world, Young Voices.

Young Voices is an opportunity for primary school children to perform all styles of music (including folk, pop, rock and classical) at some of the UK’s largest music venues. Over the past few months, the 28 Year 4, 5 and 6 pupils at Heytesbury CofE Primary School, an Acorn Education Trust School, have been working hard in school to learn the songs and dances for this year’s performance. The practices challenged the students to use their communication and team work skills to ensure they were ready to perform as part of the 5,000 strong choir.

Following a full day of rehearsals at the O2, Badgers Class performed alongside guest stars including, soul singer Heather Small, violinist Anna Phoebe the Beatbox Collective and dance group Urban Strides, to an audience of friends and families.

Isabella, Year 4 pupil, commented: “It was inspiring and life-changing. I never thought that I would ever sing in a place that big”

Barney, Year 6 pupil, added: “The atmosphere was alive! Everyone was excited and we got to sing with Heather Small.”

Penny Southby, Badgers Class Teacher, said: “It was an absolute privilege to accompany Badgers Class on such a memorable trip to the O2. We sang our socks off, loved watching the incredible performances and thoroughly immersed ourselves in the excitement and buzz of the day.”
